Veritas DX60 Block Plane Ref: VP7001

This block plane is one of the finest planes that Veritas have ever made. 4 years of design work culminates in a superb plane made to exacting standards and featuring newly refined stainless-steel hardware.

The knob and wheel have elegant elliptical knurled edges for a firm grip. The lever cap has been extensively redesigned to integrate cleanly with the plane body and provide an almost continuous hand contact surface, with tactile cues for finger placement. The Norris-type adjuster mechanism combines feed and lateral adjustments, making blade setting accurate and easy. Adjustable mouth.

The contoured body is 7” long by 1-3/4” wide, and has a 12° bed angle. Precision ground body ensures the sole is flat, the sides are square to the sole, and the bed is flat and square to the sides, all to within 0.0015” deviation. The A2 tool steel blade is 1-3/8” wide, 9/64” (0.140”) thick and hardened to Rc60-62. The blade has a primary bevel of 25°, and a 23° relief bevel to ease resharpening. The back of the blade is lapped flat within ±0.0002" in the working area of the blade.

The DX60* block plane is made from our regular ductile iron, has a die-cast lever cap, and is finished with a durable powder-coat polymer paint.

Low-Angle Block Plane Ref: VP2201

Veritas have made a block plane that uses a "Norris" style combined sideways (lateral) and up and down adjustment which gives you greater control when adjusting its impressive 1/8" thick by 1-5/8" wide A2 blade.

A2 tool steel is an alloy that takes a keener edge, is more resistant to chipping and dulls less easily than other plane blades. As it is 50% thicker than most commercial plane blades, it is also more rigid.

This plane also overcomes one of the drawbacks of other block planes in having higher side wings (ideal for shooting) with multiple finger grips in each side. The combination of accuracy of adjustment and fine machining makes it a pleasure to use. With a 12° bed angle and 25° bevel angle, the plane excels at working end grain. It has the adjustable mouthpiece and compact size of other low-angle block planes.

The 6" long by 2" wide body is made from ductile iron.

Low Angle Block Plane - ball tail & knob

The ball tail and tall knob can convert the Veritas® low-angle block plane into a small low-angle smoothing plane.

From day one the Veritas low-angle block planes were machined to accept a ball tail for a firmer grip when smoothing. A tall knob is a natural companion to it.

Though the low-angle plane can be used with much force and comfort with only the ball tail, full benefit is obtained when you add the tall knob (replacing the brass front knob that came with your plane). The combination allows you to bear down quite heavily, letting it perform like a low-angle smoothing plane, albeit smaller.

Note: The 18° micro-bevel that the low-angle block plane comes with may not be strong enough to withstand the added forces that can be experienced when using the ball tail. If you get edge failure, increase the bevel angle. This is explained in the manual that comes with the low-angle block plane.

Various accessories are offered here to maximize the planes use. For working difficult wood, 38° and 50° bevel blades are available in A2 steel. The A2 toothed blade (38° bevel) works the most difficult grain, especially knots. The small, square teeth leave a textured surface that can be smoothed with a finely set plane or a scraper.

Standard Angle Block Plane Ref: VP2230

This is the standard angle version of the low angle block plane.

Preferred for general-purpose work, the 20° bed angle plus the 25° bevel angle on the bevel-up blade result in an effective cutting angle of 45°, the same as found in most bench planes.

A low-profile lever cap results in a plane that fits the hand well, at only 1/8" higher than its low-angle sibling.

Mechanically, it shares the same features as the low angle block plane: a combined blade advance and lateral adjust, an adjustable mouth, a 6" x 2" sole, and a 1/8" thick by 1-5/8" wide A2 tool steel blade.

Veritas Apron Plane Ref: VP2702

This small, low-angle block plane is the answer to a trim carpenter's prayers. At only 14 oz it is half the weight of a standard block plane, a significant factor if you want to carry it with you all day.

The 5-1/2" long, tough ductile cast iron body will take job-site accidents in stride. This is not a plane body that will break when dropped. It has good hand feel; the unique side walls let you the plane comfortably and firmly as well as providing excellent stability for shooting.

Classic Hand Tools offer the apron plane with the superior A2 steel blade which is a beefier blade than the standard High Carbon Steel blade at 1/8" thick. Like the other Veritas block planes, the apron plane has a combined feed and lateral adjustment mechanism that makes setting easy and accurate. 12° bed angle.

Patented.
