Blue Spruce Toolworks Butt Chisels Set of 8 Ref: BST BUTTC

Blue Spruce Toolworks Butt Chisels are some of the finest quality chisels available today. They are specifically designed for heavy duty use with a mallet. The handles are figured maple that has been infused with acrylic to fill every cell. The finely machined blades are only 2-1/2 inches (63.5 mm)long and 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) thick at the bolster and taper down to the bevel. The side bevels terminate with a very small side edge land which allows use right into the sharpest dovetail corners. The blades are made from A2 tool steel. It is hardened and tempered in a computer controlled vacuum furnace to a hardness of Rc60. The cutting edge is ground and honed at a 30 degree angle. PLEASE NOTE: Blue Spruce Toolworks chisels are made to order and may have a lead time of 3 to 4 weeks.

Blue Spruce Toolworks Dovetail Chisels Ref: BST DC

These have been a fantastic addition to the range of chisels we offer at Classic Hand Tools since we introduced them into Europe in 2007.

The thin blade allows the chisels to get into tight areas e.g between tails in the area receiving small pins in dovetail joinery, or to clean up the sides of small or thin mortises.

The blades are A-2 tool steel, hardened and tempered to 60 Rc. They are precision ground, honed, and come ready to use.

The handles are finely turned with an attractive detail bead to add interest and a visual separation between the wood handle and brass ferrule. The handle is uniquely sized and has a more bulbous shape than most chisel handles for a wonderful feel and balance

Available widths: 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8 & 3/4" (the 5/8 & 3/4" sizes were added in early 2008).

Detail Skew Chisels Ref: BSTsk

Blue Spruce Toolworks have made a pair of 10mm (3/8") skew chisels to compliment the dovetail chisels. They are 3/8 inch wide to fit into tight spaces, and 4-3/8" long. The sides are concave, similar to the dovetail chisels, to allow maximum visibility of your work and to allow paring into acute angles. The blades are made from the same A-2 tool steel as the dovetail chisels and hardened to 60 Rc for superior edge retention and sharpness. These chisels are ideally suited to cleaning out the socket bottoms of half-blind dovetails. They will be a great addition to your collection of fine woodworking chisels. Attractively boxed.

Blue Spruce Toolworks Fishtail Chisels Ref: BST FT

These chisels 3/8" & 1/2" have many uses but are specifically designed to clean out the sockets of half-blind dovetails. The thin blades taper back from the edge at an 8:1 ratio to allow side clearance and easy access into the sockets. This is an excellent ratio for dovetails in most woods but especially hardwoods.

The edges are also machined concave to nearly a knife edge for maximum visibility and shaving clearance. The maximum length of socket is about 7/8 inches, which covers the majority of casework dovetail applications. For longer lengths of sockets you will want to use your Blue Spruce Toolworks skew chisels.

The 4.25" long A2 blade is hardened and tempered to 60 Rc and ground and honed at a 30 degree angle. Like all Blue Spruce Toolworks' chisels, it is beautifully machined and well balanced and sure to become a favourite. The chisel is available with cocobolo, African blackwood or curly (figured) maple handles.

Blue Spruce Toolworks Bench Chisels are some of the finest quality chisels available today. They are specifically designed for heavy duty use and should be considered for your first set of chisels. Due to the dollar/sterling exchange you need to take deep breath before commiting to this purchase. You'll probably never let them out of your sight but we are confident you will not be disappointed!

Made with both a strong socket and a deep tang construction, they are stronger than most traditional bench chisels and are nicely balanced. The handles are designed to provide a comfortable, secure grip for precision, fatigue-free work. The handles are hard, figured maple that has been infused with acrylic to fill every cell. This makes an extremely dense and tough handle that can take pounding from a mallet. The finely machined blades are 5 inches long and 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) thick at the bolster and taper down to the bevel. The side bevels terminate with a very small side edge land which allows use in the sharpest dovetail corners. The blades are made from A2 tool steel which is some of the finest steel available for edge tools today. It is hardened and tempered in a computer controlled vacuum furnace to a hardness of Rc61. The cutting edge is ground and honed at a 30 degree angle.

Blue Spruce Toolworks Mini Chisel Ref: BST-MC

These small chisels are precision ground, straight sided chisels available in four widths, .024, .032, .046 and .062 inches (.61, .81, 1.17 and 1.57 mm). They are ideal for working with string inlay and other delicate tasks. The blades are ground from M2 alloy steel and hardened to 60 Rc. With careful use, these chisels can also be used for delicate grooving work on a lathe. The handles are appropriately sized to fit snug in your hand and allow working close to your workpiece. Available in Cocobolo only.
