Lie-Nielsen Shooting Board Plane Ref: L-N51

This single purpose plane is designed to trim mitres and other end grain cuts on a shooting board. Stanley first made its version in 1909 along with a metal shooting board. Lie-Nielsen has had requests for this tool over the years, so we are pleased to announce that it is now available. This version utilises a standard 60mm(2.3/8") bench plane blade and frog, and is heavier than the original. It is 380mm(15") long, 90mm(3.9/16") wide, with a shoulder height of 54mm(2.1/8"), and is just over 4kgs(9lbs). It will fit the original Stanley 52 shooting board, if you just happen to have one lying underneath your bench. Lie-Nielsen has plans to offer a companion Shooting Board in the future.

Lie-Nielsen's smoothing planes are precision machined from a manganese bronze casting, or an iron casting. They all come with a beautifully formed handle and knob made from American cherry. They have the Stanley Bedrock style frog which gives a fully machined mating fit between the frog and body. You can move the frog backwards or forwards, allowing the opening or closing of the plane's mouth without having to remove the lever cap or blade. The blades are a 1/8" thick and require light honing before use.

The No.2 is 7 1/2" long with a 1 5/8" blade. Although a small bench plane, the No.2 is considerably larger than the No.1 and is available in bronze weighing about 3 1/4 lbs.

The No.3 - Just a bit smaller than the No. 4, 8" long. 1 3/4" blade. Bronze 4 lbs.

The No.4 The equivalent of a later type Stanley Bedrock No.604. Overall length 9 1/2", width of blade 2". Available in ductile cast iron or manganeze bronze.

Lie-Nielsen High Angle Frogs Ref: L-NYP2

If you prefer a higher angle for your plane blade you can either fit a 50 degree (York Pitch) or a 55 degree (Mid Pitch) frog.

Most planes have their blades at an angle of 45°, known as common pitch. But the famous English Smoothers like Norris are usually 50° (York Pitch) or 55° (Middle Pitch). The higher pitches make smoothing difficult wood easier. These frogs will fit Lie Nielsen bench planes with a 2" or 2-3/8" blades

This is a sweet little plane from Lie Nielsen Toolworks. This curved sole low angle block plane is perfect for all sorts of hollowing jobs, chair seats, mouldings, model making, etc. The radius across the width of the sole is 3 inches, from end to end the radius is 27 inches. Lie-Nielsen No.85 Scraper Plane Ref: L-N85

Scraping Planes are used for finishing woods that do not yield well to the hand plane. A scraping plane is more comfortable to use than a hand scraper, and a plane body helps you keep the surface you are scraping flat.

They can be tricky to master, however. To make it easier, we do not recommend using a burr, at least until you’ve learned how to use the tool. These tools will cut very well with the blade sharpened like a plane blade.

All of our Scraping Planes have thick blades, beveled at 45° for easy sharpening. The blades are soft enough to burnish, but hard enough to hold an edge well. Sharp, set properly, and used with smooth, light strokes, these tools will produce a final finished surface on the most difficult hardwoods.

A planed finish will always be preferable to a scraped finish, and our Bench Planes will give great results on almost any wood. But there are times when a scraping plane is the best tool for the job.

The equivalent of a Stanley No. 9, this is a heavy plane and more robust than the original. The originals are extremely scarce and most live with collectors. This plane is 10 3/4" long with a 2 " blade set "bevel up" at 20° with a 25° bevel (i.e an included cutting angle of 45°).

The Bailey-type adjuster controls the blade easily and precisely, even while planing. The mouth is fully adjustable. Sides and bottom are machine ground dead flat and square to .001". Ductile Iron, Manganese Bronze, Brass, Cherry and Tool Steel construction.

Lie Nielsen Screwdriver Set Ref: L-NSSet

These screwdrivers are made to fit specific screws on Lie Nielsen tools. They may be useful for other jobs as well. Modelled after gunsmith's screwdrivers with machined tips, they are correctly sized to fit the screw slots, giving you good power and control without slipping. The Chipbreaker and frog adjustment screwdriver are particularly useful. Because the Low Angle Jack is so popular, Lie Nielsen have brought out a Low Angle Jointer 22" (55.9cm) long, like the No. 7, but with the blade mounted bevel up at 12°. This jointer weighs in at 7.35 lbs., making it a powerful workhorse for heavy stock removal. Blade is 2¼" (5.71cm) x ¼" (6.35mm) thick.

Low angle planes are versatile, uncomplicated tools that will do a great job on end grain and long grain in most situations. A steeper blade bevel (up to 40°) will enhance performance in difficult woods.

Lie-Nielsen Low Angle Smoother Ref: L-N164

The Low Angle Smoothing Plane is based on the rare Stanley 164, and is essentially a shorter version of the Low Angle Jack Plane — with an adjustable mouth, and a massive 2" (5.08cm) wide, 3/16" (4.7mm) thick blade, set at 12°. However, this tool is only 9½" (24.1cm) long and weighs 3¾ lbs.

It is called a Smoothing Plane because of its size (the same as the Lie-Nielsen No. 4 Smoother). But like the Jack, it excels at both rough and finish work, and can be converted from one mode to another very quickly. The unique overhead Bailey-type blade adjuster provides smooth depth adjustment at your fingertips.

Toothed blades for Block Planes and Bench Planes have small chisel-like teeth .030" (.762mm) wide, and spaced .030" apart. They are used for heavy stock removal in difficult grain. Follow with a fine-set Smoothing Plane.
