Lie-Nielsen No.1 Smoothing Plane Ref: L-N1

Miniature smoothing plane, 5 1/2" long with a 13/16" blade. Bronze body only. I am not entirely convinced of the function of this tool as it is too small to get your hand round. However "tis an andsome thing" and certainly about 1/10th of the price of an original pristine Stanley No.1

Lie-Nielsen Nos. 2, 3 & 4 Smoothing Planes Ref: L-N2/3/4

Lie-Nielsen's smoothing planes are precision machined from a manganese bronze casting, or an iron casting. They all come with a beautifully formed handle and knob made from American cherry. They have the Stanley Bedrock style frog which gives a fully machined mating fit between the frog and body. You can move the frog backwards or forwards, allowing the opening or closing of the plane's mouth without having to remove the lever cap or blade. The blades are a 1/8" thick and require light honing before use.

The No.2 is 7 1/2" long with a 1 5/8" blade. Although a small bench plane, the No.2 is considerably larger than the No.1 and is available in bronze weighing about 3 1/4 lbs.

The No.3 - Just a bit smaller than the No. 4, 8" long. 1 3/4" blade. Bronze 4 lbs.

The No.4 The equivalent of a later type Stanley Bedrock No.604. Overall length 9 1/2", width of blade 2". Avialable in ductile cast iron or manganeze bronze.

Lie-Nielsen York Pitch Frog Ref: L-NYP2

If you prefer a higher angle for your plane blade you can fit this 50 degree frog.

Most planes have their blades at an angle of 45°, known as common pitch, but the famous old English makers such as Norris had blades set at 50° or York pitch which is helpful when working with difficult timbers. Available in two sizes to convert Lie-Nielson Nos. 4 & 5, with 2" wide blades and Lie-Nielson Nos. 4 1/2, 5 1/2, 6 & 7, with 2 3/8" wide blades to the steeper York Pitch.

Lie Nielsen No.100 1/2 Convex Sole Block Plane Ref: L-N100 1/2

This is a sweet little plane from Lie Nielsen Toolworks. This curved sole low angle block plane is perfect for all sorts of hollowing jobs, chair seats, mouldings, model making, etc. The radius across the width of the sole is 3 inches, from end to end the radius is 27 inches. The sole is 3 1/2 inches long and the overall length with the squirrel tail handle is 5 inches. The 1/8 inch thick A-2 steel blade is 7/8 inches wide. Ductile Iron body, bronze cap. Weight 8 oz.

These small bronze planes fit perfectly in the hand and slip easily into the pocket. The 5¼" body holds a 1¼" x 1/8" thick blade. An unobtrusive Stainless Steel adjuster offers blade control of micrometer ease and precision with minimum backlash. (The mouth is not adjustable - see Nos. 9 1/2 & 102 1/2 for adjustable mouth block planes).

The blade in the Low Angle Plane is bedded at 12° for fine cuts and end grain. The blade in the standard angle is set at 20° and will take a heavier cut with the grain.

This 12 degree angle rebate block plane is based on an old Sargent block plane. The plane body is made from stressed relieved, unbreakable ductile iron and is ground flat and square. The cap iron is polished bronze. The throat is non adjustable. It is 6" long with a 1 3/4" wide blade. It handy as a block plane and makes trimming tenons quick and easy.

Scraping Planes are used for finishing woods that do not yield well to the hand plane. A scraping plane is more comfortable to use than a hand scraper, and a plane body helps you keep the surface you are scraping flat.

They can be tricky to master, however. To make it easier, we do not recommend using a burr, at least until you’ve learned how to use the tool. These tools will cut very well with the blade sharpened like a plane blade.

All of our Scraping Planes have thick blades, beveled at 45° for easy sharpening. The blades are soft enough to burnish, but hard enough to hold an edge well. Sharp, set properly, and used with smooth, light strokes, these tools will produce a final finished surface on the most difficult hardwoods.

A planed finish will always be preferable to a scraped finish, and our Bench Planes will give great results on almost any wood. But there are times when a scraping plane is the best tool for the job.

This plane is based on the Stanley 40 1/2 and is designed to remove large quantities of wood quickly e.g taking rough-sawn boards down to size, before finishing with a Jack Plane and a Smoothing Plane.

It is also useful practical for shaping irregular objects or creating an interesting finished surface.

The Lie Nielsen Scrub Plane has a cast Iron body, 10¼" long. The blade is massive to eliminate chatter 1½" x 3/16" thick. A 3" radius on the blade and an open throat allow taking a deep cut with ease.

The Chisel Plane is the perfect little tool (6 1/2" x 1 3/4") for removing glue and trimming dowel plugs. It is very useful for working into corners and to the ends of rebates. Based on Stanley's classic 10 1/4 rebate plane with snicker irons on the sides. The handle and front knob can be tilted over to clear your hands when using it against a high shoulder. The equivalent of a Stanley No. 9, this is a heavy plane and more robust than the original. The originals are extremely scarce and most live with collectors. This plane is 10 3/4" long with a 2 " blade set "bevel up" at 20° with a 25° bevel (i.e an included cutting angle of 45°).

The Bailey-type adjuster controls the blade easily and precisely, even while planing. The mouth is fully adjustable. Sides and bottom are machine ground dead flat and square to .001". Ductile Iron, Manganese Bronze, Brass, Cherry and Tool Steel construction.

This plane is now supplied with a "hot dog" handle. The "hot dog" is a tubular handle designed for comfort in shooting board applications. It is shipped with the tool and can be purchased separately. It is compatible with older generation mitre planes.

Lie Nielsen Screwdriver Set Ref: L-NSSet

These screwdrivers are made to fit specific screws on Lie Nielsen tools. They may be useful for other jobs as well. Modelled after gunsmith's screwdrivers with machined tips, they are correctly sized to fit the screw slots, giving you good power and control without slipping. The Chipbreaker and frog adjustment screwdriver are particularly useful. Currently available only as set of 8 from Classic Hand Tools comprising Nicker screwdriver, the driver for the split nut on the dovetail saw, the driver for the tenon saw nut, for the chipbreaker screw,for the handle & the cap screw, the driver for the small handle nut on the 140 block plane, the frog adjuster screwdiver, and the handle toe screw driver.
