Lie-Nielsen Chisels

Lie-Nielsen Chisels are based on the Stanley 750 Bevel Edge Socket Chisels.

Socket chisels are not common these days, perhaps because they are expensive to make. At 9" long, these chisels are particularly comfortable in the hand and have excellent balance. These chisels are consistently rated with the Blue Spruce Toolworks chisel range as the best western chisels available.

Lie Nielsen have expanded their range from the standard bevel edge chisels.
(NOTE - There are now 2 choices of steel for the bevel edge bench chisels. A-2 Tool Steel or newly available high carbon steel) to include fishtails, skews, corner, mortise, paring and drawer lock chisels.

There is always heavy demand for these chisels so please enquire as to stock levels. We have a rolling stock order so Classic Hand Tools try to have these chisels in stock at all time. If you are looking for a Christmas present then please enquire 3/4 months in advance!

Lie-Nielsen A2 Bevel Edge Chisels Ref: L-NBE
A2 chisels - these will hold their edge longer than high carbon chisels and therefore require less frequent sharpening.

The chisel edges are square, parallel along the length, and very narrow so you can get into tight places. The backs are ground flat and finished by hand at 400 grit. The bevel is flat ground at 30°, but a higher secondary bevel (about 35°) is advisable, depending on the wood and how the chisel is being used. Additional honing is recommended.

Lie-Nielsen Chisels have Maine-harvested Hornbeam handles.

There are now 10 sizes, 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" & 1" and these are all available individually.

The ever popular basic set of 5 chisels comprises - 1/8" (3mm), 1/4" (6mm), 3/8" (9.5mm), 1/2" (13mm) and 3/4" (19mm) and is supplied with a premium quality Lie Nielsen leather tool roll.

Lie-Nielsen 0-1 High Carbon Bevel Edge Chisels Ref: L-NBEHC

The 0-1 High Carbon chisels require more frequent sharpening but some folk swear they take a keener edge and are easier to sharpen. Same geometry as the A2 chisels and fitted with hornbean handles..

Lie-Nielsen Long Handled Bevel Edge Chisels Ref: L-NBEP-

The blades for these chisels are the same as for the standard bevel edge chisels. The handles are longer making the overall length of the tool 325mm (or 12 3/4 in old money). This allows you to use the chisels for paring.

These chisels are supplied with hornbeam handles.

Lie-Nielsen Mortise Chisels Ref: L-NMC

Hornbeam handled socketed A2 cyrogenically treated mortise chisels from Lie-Nielsen Toolworks.The blades are formed taller than they are wide with parallel ground sides for accuracy in the cut.

Lie-Nielsen Corner Chisels Ref: LNCC

Producing square mortises is exacting work. The corner chisel, used after the mortise has been roughed out by hand or with a slot mortiser- which produces round edged mortises- helps square corners easily and precisely.

Made from O-1 Tool Steel. The cutting edge is hardened to Rc 60-62 and ground razor sharp.

Hornbeam handles. Blade length 5-3/4", overall length is 9-5/8".

Drawer Lock Chisel Pair Ref: LNDLCP

This special pair of chisels is indispensable for cutting small mortises in tight places - such as setting a drawer lock into a piece of furniture.

O-1 Tool Steel, precision ground. 4" overall length, shaft dimension of 1/4" x 1/4". Blade widths are 1/2" and 1/4" respectively. Blade length is 1", with a cutting depth of 11/16" on both sides.
