Scraper Planes
Lie-Nielsen No.85 Scraper Plane
Ref: L-N85
Scraping Planes are used for finishing woods that do not yield well to the hand plane. A scraping plane is more comfortable to use than a hand scraper, and a plane body helps you keep the surface you are scraping flat.
They can be tricky to master, however. To make it easier, we do not recommend using a burr, at least until youve learned how to use the tool. These tools will cut very well with the blade sharpened like a plane blade.
All of our Scraping Planes have thick blades, beveled at 45° for easy sharpening. The blades are soft enough to burnish, but hard enough to hold an edge well. Sharp, set properly, and used with smooth, light strokes, these tools will produce a final finished surface on the most difficult hardwoods.
A planed finish will always be preferable to a scraped finish, and our Bench Planes will give great results on almost any wood. But there are times when a scraping plane is the best tool for the job.
This plane is a copy of the rare Stanley No.85 scraper plane. The full width blade allows you to work against an adjacent vertical surface and the tilting knob and handle saves your knuckles. Iron body with bronze non-adjustable frog and bronze cap. Length 8 3/8". Width 2". Weight 3 lbs.

The Small Scraping Plane (5½" long with a 1-3/8" x 1/8" blade) is based on the Stanley 212, which is scarce today and brings high prices from collectors. It is ideal for smaller work and is available with a bronze or iron body.

No.112 Style Scraping Plane
Ref: VP2901
The Veritas® scraping plane is the ideal tool for final smoothing, especially when you have to deal with highly figured wood or reversing grain. With a well-sharpened blade and light cuts you can achieve excellent results on any wood. Tear-out is virtually eliminated with the cutting action of the included scraping blade. The adjustable frog enables blade angles from 0° to 25°, providing fine control of the cutting action.
A feature unique to our scraping plane is an integral thumbscrew that bows the blade to eliminate ridges in the work surface caused by blade corners. The plane comes with a 0.055" high-carbon steel blade.
The 9-1/2" ductile cast iron body has been fully stress relieved, machined, and surface ground on the sole. Weight is 4 lb. Detailed instructions included.
Patent pending.
No.112 style scraping plane with high carbon steel blade, 2-7/8" wide, hardened to Rc48-51 with the cutting edges ground at 45°.

It is also used to prepare areas of very difficult grain before the regular scraping blade is used. 2-7/8" wide blade, hardened to Rc48-51 with the cutting edges ground at 45°.

No.80 Style Cabinet Scraper
Ref: VP3205
This cabinet scraper is a very useful and versatile tool. Used in place of a much heavier belt sander, it can clean a dirty workbench top, remove dried glue and smooth a panel or tricky grain table top efficiently, leaving behind a surface free of tear-out, digs or gouges.
Veritas have designed this tool with several improvements over what is usually known as the No.80 cabinet scraper. To allow the user to apply pressure directly in line with the cutting edge and prevent the blade catching when the scraper runs off the end of the workpiece, the sole is longer and the handles have been placed further back and slightly lower than seen in other scrapers.
The blade is 2-3/4" wide with both edges ground at 45° so that the tool may have two cutting edges prepared at once, thus halving the number of sharpening sessions. The casting is shaped to protect both the upward-facing cutting edge and the user from accidental damage.
Made from ductile cast iron, the scraper will stand up to vigorous use. The sole is surface ground for accuracy. Two screws secure the blade, and the integral thumbscrew is used to set blade camber.
The sole is 3-3/16" long, 3-3/8" wide. Overall length is 11-1/2". Weighs about 1 lb, 10 oz.
Comes with detailed instructions.
