Lie-Nielsen No.1 Smoothing Plane Ref: L-N1

Miniature smoothing plane, 5 1/2" long with a 13/16" blade. Bronze body only. I am not entirely convinced of the function of this tool as it is too small to get your hand round. However "tis an andsome thing" and certainly about 1/10th of the price of an original pristine Stanley No.1

Lie-Nielsen Nos. 2, 3 & 4 Smoothing Planes Ref: L-N2/3/4


Lie-Nielsen's smoothing planes are precision machined from a manganese bronze casting, or an iron casting. They all come with a beautifully formed handle and knob made from American cherry. They have the Stanley Bedrock style frog which gives a fully machined mating fit between the frog and body. You can move the frog backwards or forwards, allowing the opening or closing of the plane's mouth without having to remove the lever cap or blade. The blades are a 1/8" thick and require light honing before use.

The No.2 is 7 1/2" long with a 1 5/8" blade. Although a small bench plane, the No.2 is considerably larger than the No.1 and is available in bronze weighing about 3 1/4 lbs.

The No.3 - Just a bit smaller than the No. 4, 8" long. 1 3/4" blade. Bronze 4 lbs.

The No.4 The equivalent of a later type Stanley Bedrock No.604. Overall length 9 1/2", width of blade 2". Available in ductile cast iron or manganeze bronze.

Lie-Nielsen High Angle Frogs Ref: L-NYP2

If you prefer a higher angle for your plane blade you can either fit a 50 degree (York Pitch) or a 55 degree (Mid Pitch) frog.

Most planes have their blades at an angle of 45°, known as common pitch. But the famous English Smoothers like Norris are usually 50° (York Pitch) or 55° (Middle Pitch). The higher pitches make smoothing difficult wood easier. These frogs will fit Lie Nielsen bench planes with a 2" or 2-3/8" blades
