Veritas Side Rabbet Plane Ref: VP4401

The Veritas Side Rabbet Plane is used for cleaning up or trimming sidewalls of rabbets, dadoes or grooves to yield a perfect fit with its mate. It has a practical dual-blade configuration, coupled with an ingenious pivoting handle that permits right- or left-hand use to accommodate grain direction.

The thin sole functions much like a skate, allowing use in slots as narrow as 3/16" and to a depth of 1/2". The toe is removable for use in stopped dadoes and has a fixing screw that is trapped to prevent loss. The depth stop helps orient and stabilize the plane during use and is both height adjustable and reversible (simply loosen the screw and rotate the stop without removing it from the body).

Sculpted to fit the hand comfortably, the handle has a spring-loaded pivot for sure positioning – it won't move accidentally in use. The accurately machined, 4-1/2" long ductile cast iron plane body and the two O1 tool steel blades (Rc58-60) are lapped.

Veritas Skew Rabbet Ref: VP45

Like the Stanley #289 that inspired it, it is configured with a blade skewed at a 30° angle to reduce cut resistance, aid in shaving clearance, and help pull the fence tight against the workpiece. Because the blade sits flush with the side of the plane body, corner cuts are clean and accurate.

Adjustable in two axes (vertical and horizontal) for depth and projection, the scoring spur sits ahead of the blade and is used to reduce tear-out on cross-grain work. The spur can be recessed for work with the grain.

The 7-3/8" long fence is through-drilled to accept a wooden extension. Double guide rods and a special collet locking system prevent the fence from racking, and the large brass knobs allow fast and easy adjustments without tools. The fence can be positioned to allow a maximum rabbet width of 1-1/2".

The adjustable shoe controls the depth of cut to a maximum 3/4" deep (or you can remove the shoe for no depth limitation), and has relieved edges to avoid marking your work.

Supplied with a lapped A2 tool steel blade that is 1/8" thick and just over 1-5/8" wide. The depth-adjustment mechanism is fast and accurate, with an independent traveller to prevent lateral shifting of the blade. Set screws along the side allow repeatable blade positioning.

The large wooden handles are solid and comfortable to hold. The 9-3/4" long ductile cast iron body is machined with a 45° blade bed and weighs 3-1/2 lb.

The plane is available in left- and right-hand versions. You may need only the version that suits your dominant hand, though neither model is exclusively for left- or right-handed users. They are in fact complementary since having both lets you accommodate any grain direction.

Veritas Small Plough Plane Ref: VP5101-5

The Veritas Small Plough Plane is ideal for quickly cutting grooves and rebayes, such as on drawer & box bottoms, cabinet backs and in frame and panel construction. The 6-5/8" long fence registers solidly to the workpiece and is through-drilled to accommodate the addition of a wooden fence extension.

The asymmetric fence grip has been sculpted to comfortably fit the natural curvatures of the hand. Double guide rods and a special collet locking system prevent the fence from racking. The large brass knobs make adjustments fast and easy without need for tools; the fence can be offset from flush to 1-1/2" from the 1/4" blade. The adjustable shoe controls the depth of cut (maximum 1/2" deep), and has relieved edges to avoid marking your work.

A wave washer in the locking mechanism steadies the shoe during adjustment. Best used in the direction of the grain, The plane comes with A2 tool steel blades 1/8", 3/16", 1/4" 5/16" and 3/8".

The large wooden rear tote offers a solid, comfortable grip, and the 9" long ductile cast iron body weighs 1-3/4 lb and is machined with a 45° blade bed.

An excellent and quieter alternative for work often performed with a router.
