The Pax Range

Thomas Flinn are traditional Sheffield saw makers and their Pax range is their premium range of saws. The Pax range of saws is nearly 250 years old having originally been founded in 1776 by Thomas Sanderson of Sanderson Brothers & Co.Ltd who were one of the leading steel producers of their time.

Today the Pax range of saws are still made to original specifications. Taper ground, skew back breasted handsaws, brass backed tenon saws. Whilst Classic Hand Tools do carry some stock items, these premium quality saws are currently made to order so please expect a short delay (usually no longer than 2 weeks) in delivery during busy production periods. The Pax range is well packaged and presented and the saws make fine gifts.
Thomas Flinn Pax 1776 Dovetail Saw Ref: TF1776DS

Pax 1776 Saws are Thomas Flinn’s flagship saws and celebrate the original date of manufacture of Pax saws. They all have a folded brass back engraved "Pax 1776 Sheffield England". The brass back holds the blade under tension offering excellent rigidity and balance whilst the added weight adds to the fine cutting ability of these saws. The traditional open handle is made from English Elm and is hand finished with Danish Oil to offer the perfect comfort and grip. Each saw is tested before despatch.

Thomas Flinn Pax 1776 Variable Pitch Saw 10" Ref: TF1776VPS

Now available as a variable pitch version (10") with the teeth on the blade starting at 20tpi and gradually getting larger up to around 10tpi at the end of the blade. This type of saw allows easy starting of cuts and faster cuts due to the coarser teeth towards the end of the blade.

Available in both Rip and X Cut.

Thomas Flinn Pax Beech Handled Dovetail & Tenon Saws Ref: TF-TS

The Pax 8" Dovetail Saw is a fine saw for your dovetail work and has the same style high quality mirror polished brass back as the tenon saws. The handles are made from the finest steamed beech with a two-tone gloss finish. Hand set and sharpened in the traditional way. Packed in individual presentation style card box.

Thomas Flinn Pax Hand Saws Ref: PAX24

Hand- crafted of the finest alloy steel these saws are taper ground and breasted (meaning less teeth are in contact with the wood and therefore less friction) and are precisely set and sharpened by hand to ensure the best possible cut without binding. The handle is made from the finest steamed beech with a two-tone gloss finish. Packed in individual presentation style card box.

With a variation of teeth sizes, there is a Handsaw for every type of work. Rip saws (4 ½ tpi) are intended for cutting with the grain. The Handsaw (8tpi) and Panel Saw (10tpi) are both crosscut saws and are for cutting across the grain.
