Veritas Straightedges Ref: VN6

These anodized aluminium straight edges are 1 3/4" high and 7/16" wide, and will not rust. The reference edge is machined flat to within 0.003" over the entire length. They are available in three lengths, 24", 38" and 50". The 24" straight edge weighs 1 lb, the 38" weighs just under 2 lb, and the 50" version weighs 2.5 lb. Where extreme accuracy is needed, our solid steel bar has both edges precision ground flat to within 0.001" over the entire length. It is 24" long, 1/4" thick and 1 1/2" wide. At just over 2 lb, it's weight ensures it will stay in place while you make any adjustments.

Micro-Adjust Gauge Ref: VN3510 Gauge

The Veritas wheel marking gauge is a great workhorse and excellent value. Its popularity led to the development of a second model that incorporates a micro-adjust feature. It is similar to our standard wheel marking gauge with an anodized aluminum body, brass face, stainless-steel rod and internal O-ring to keep a constant light friction force on the rod. It differs in that the body is slightly longer and is fitted with a two-stage collet that allows micro-adjustment of the cutting wheel. The collet has a fine-pitch thread; one revolution advances or retracts the wheel 1/32", a half turn 1/64", a quarter turn 1/128", etc. The knurled thumbscrew then locks the setting.

The hardened steel wheel cuts wood fibres rather than tearing them, which leaves a clean mark, even on cross grain. The wheel's single-sided bevel also forces the gauge face against the stock, maintaining accuracy. The cutting edge of the wheel is at the extreme end of the shaft, which is useful for transferring dimensions such as tenon shoulder or mortise depth. The wheel retracts into the face of the gauge for storage.

Veritas Dual Marking Gauge Ref: VN70.01

Set two measurements at once with two independently adjustable rods, alternate between them when transferring or marking repetitive dimensions.

The Veritas Dual Marking Gauge is actually a cutting gauge. It has two fixed round cutters on each stem. The stems can be fully retracted into the gauge head..

A clever feature is that the wheels are set with opposing bevels so you can always set the bevel in the waste of the cut.

Veritas Shaft Clamp for Dual Marking Gauge Ref: VN7005

On occasions, it may an advantage to lock the relative position of the two rods on the Veritas® Dual Marking Gauge, such as when a project requires a constant mortise size, but different offsets. The shaft clamp lets you lock the relative position of the cutters while still being able to adjust the fence for offset. This allows you to preserve identical mortise or tenon sizing when joining parts of different thicknesses or when adding a reveal, since it prevents the cutter settings from shifting while the fence is being repositioned.

Machined to precise tolerances to prevent binding on the rods, the 13mm long collar is made from extruded aluminium, with a turned brass thumbscrew that tightens onto the marking gauge’s steel guide rods without marring their surfaces. Made in Canada.

Veritas Marking/Mortice Gauge Heads Ref: V-15N0101

Though designed for use with their Veritas® Wheel Marking Gauges, these gauge heads are a simple retrofit for any marking gauge with a 5/16" diameter shaft.
Made from carbon steel, the 5/8" diameter wheel cutters will scribe at any point in their circumference and slice rather than tear fibers for clean, accurate cuts. The single-bevel cutters are usable in-line for marking parallel lines, or with bevels facing for sure mortise sizing and chisel registration. Secured with integral set screws, the blades can be set as close as 3/8" apart. The included shaft collar registers against the marking gauge fence to ensure the shaft remains parallel to the workpiece, preventing accidental tilting of the cutters in use; this is especially useful when scribing large offsets from the fence.

Supplied as a pair of cutters with a shaft collar, hex key and instructions.

Beam Compass Heads Ref: 05N5001

Using a regular compass for small circles is OK, but for projects involving large circles or arcs, our beam compass heads are ideal.

The aluminum heads clamp onto a piece of wood between 5/8" and 3/4" thick, creating a compass whose radius is limited only by the length of stock you have at hand. Each brass clamping knob holds the head securely to the beam using a trapped pin that prevents pivoting and shifting. The pins withdraw as the clamping knob is backed off. The heads need only be clamped approximately as one of the points has an eccentric tip that can be used to achieve 1/8" of fine adjustment. Both points have been hardened and can be used to mark hard surfaces such as steel plate, sheet metal or aluminum.

Also included is a small pencil for marking wood and wallboard. The heads, points and pencil all pack into the slim tubular hard-shell case for storage in a toolbox.

A simple yet highly useful layout tool.

Price: £58.96 (Including VAT at 20%)

Beam Compass Ref: VN3001

Ordinary compasses just don't cut it in the shop; a beam compass (or trammel) is much more practical.

Using a single beam section, the Veritas® beam compass deals with circles from 1-1/2" to 24" in diameter. Additional sections take you up to 80" (203cm) for circular tables, rockers, arches, etc. It has carbide-tipped points that readily scribe metal as well as wood, although the pencil head is usually used for scribing wood. A micro-adjust feature quickly gives accurate settings.

All of this comes in a fitted wooden case that even includes a small brass centre pivot disc for use where it is important not to mar work. The beams are steel and the fittings are solid brass.

Veritas Poly-Gauge Ref: VN1401

Many find it hard to set equipment for a square cut; they simply give up on pentagons, hexagons, octagons etc. This gauge can be used to set table saws, jointers, radial arm saws, bandsaws & drill presses. Used flat, the gauge is ideal for setting mitre fences or for layout work.

Used vertically, the slotted knob becomes a stabilizing base that holds the gauge erect so that you have both hands free for adjusting & locking a fence or blade.

It is ideal for picture framing, tubs & planters, glued up cylinders for turning - any job that requires precise equipment setting for 4,5,6,8 or 12 sided mitres. Brass & zinc aluminium.

Dovetail Markers Ref: 05N1010

For quick, accurate marking of dovetails, this pair are the best available. With riding ledges on both sides, these 50x50mm markers can be flipped over to scribe both slopes of the dovetail.
They are designed so the entire ledge is riding on the reference face, even when marking edge dovetails.

The relieved corners at the join of the body ensure perfect seating. Made from anodized aluminium, this pair of markers will never soil your work. 1:6 for softwood & 1:8 for hardwood.

Veritas Dovetail Saddle Markers Ref: VN610

These dovetail saddle markers are precision machined at 1:6 and 1:8 angles, the traditional angles for softwood and hardwood dovetails respectively. The long legs ensure accurate registration.

Also, much like the Veritas® Saddle Square™ they are based on, they allow a continuous line to be transferred around the corner, so the straight and angled lines can be scribed at the same time, ensuring perfect alignment. The inside corner is relieved to ensure flush seating.

Made from anodized aluminum, these markers are light and durable, and will never mark your work.

Saddle Squares Ref: VN56

Small Saddle Square - Transferring a line from one surface to another with a small square is not easy. Our saddle square allows you to scribe two perpendicular surfaces at one time. But, more importantly, it allows you to pick up on a line already scribed & accurately transfer it to another perpendicular face. With 1 1/4" (32mm) & 2 1/4" (57mm) inside legs, it can wrap a line around workpieces to nearly double this. Made of anodized aluminium, 50mm wide, with both end faces machined square.

Large Saddle Square - Many of the people who purchased the small saddle square have asked for a larger version. This version has 1-3/8" x 3-3/8" legs to accommodate a standard 2 x 4 e.g., for stud wall layout. It also has a slot machined through the centre to help lay out stud locations. Simply mark the centres of your studs on top and bottom plate, then place the square so that the slot is on the centre mark. Mark both sides of the saddle square to give accurate and square stud locations; the large saddle square is 1-1/2" wide so the marks will fit nominal 2" timber. Made of anodized aluminum, with both end faces machined square to within 1/4°.

Mitre Saddle Ref: VN5615

When working on small items such as picture frames, a large combination square or try square can often be cumbersome. Not so with the new Veritas mitre saddle. The relatively small size makes it easy to use.

Despite its small size, it still has a large reference face (3-1/2" at the wide end) set at 45°. The leg measures 1" wide by 2-1/4" long. As with the saddle squares, the sides are machined so that a line can be easily and accurately transferred around workpiece corners. With the mitre saddle, however, a right-angle line on one surface is transferred as a 45° angle on the adjoining surface, or vice versa. This way, a line for a mitre cut can be wrapped around all surfaces precisely and will meet perfectly at the corners. The inside corner is relieved to ensure perfect registration.

Made from anodized aluminum, this marker is light, durable, and will never mark your work.

Carpenters Gauge Ref: VN3601

Specifically designed to be carried in an apron or pocket, this is both a direct-reading compass and a marking gauge, two things that carpenters frequently need but find hard to carry.

It has a rotatable head, which locks vertically for use and horizontally for storage and tip protection. It is direct reading, both for radius and diameter, in inches and centimetres. If you have ever measured a dryer vent pipe at 5-7/16" diameter and needed to cut a hole for it, you'll know why direct-setting diameters are such an advantage. Similarly, if you have ever had to put a radius on a corner, you know why a combination compass/marking gauge is so valuable. You set your radius, locate the center using the gauge, then rotate the head and scribe your line with the compass.

The gauge is also useful in a cabinet shop because of the direct-reading feature (substantially reduces errors), as well as for the fast corner radiusing just described. Made of brass, stainless steel and high-impact ABS, it is 7-1/2" long overall, and will scribe circles up to 12" diameter.

Bevel Setters Ref: VN660

A sliding bevel is an excellent tool for transferring angles but not for reading them. This bevel setter allows you to set specific angles (from 0° to 60° in 1/2° increments) on a sliding bevel or a workpiece and to read angles already set. Both functions are useful for dovetailing, for machine set-up, for polygon work, or for accurately fitting a piece in a restricted location. Common dovetail and polygon angles are highlighted on the reverse side.
The etched stainless-steel blade is 3" wide and 7" long. It is both easier to use and more accurate than a protractor in the same applications.

Veritas Set-Up Blocks Ref: VN5801

Setting up machines in the shop can be a frustrating and inaccurate undertaking. Tape measures and rulers are difficult to use when measuring gaps between curved bits and guide fences. Worse, machines often require two hands to adjust, leaving nothing to hold the measuring tool being used.

The Veritas® Set-Up Blocks help solve this problem. Simply place the appropriate block or combination of blocks between the fence and bit or blade and adjust accordingly.

The set includes five 2" long anodized aluminum blocks 1/16", 1/8", 1/4", 1/2" and 3/4" thick, accurate to within 0.002", plus a steel 1-2-3 block (so named for its 1" x 2" x 3" size), accurate to within 0.0002"! Combined, they stack from 1/16" to 4-11/16" in 1/16" increments.

The entire set comes in a hard-shell plastic case with dividers to protect the blocks
